Document Composition

DoXite ® - Document Composition and Design

The DoXite ® document formatting system from DETEC GmbH is designed to automate complex business documents from daily desktop letters to huge volume document output, e.g. for telecommunications and utility companies (e.g. SAP IS-U).

We have extensive skills in the application of the DoXite ® document formatting system and offer both project management, application development, training and add-on tools for DoXite ® systems, such as our DoXTK product.

In the first instance, we can offer you consultancy on how to go about implementing the DoXite ® solution; how much training you will need, estimating the time required to migrate from a legacy system to DoXite ®, determining the best form of raw data to feed into the DoXite ® system, etc.

We also offer on-site DoXite ® training, upto and including the latest release, 2.0, and including Python for DoXite ® users, at very competitive prices.

We can project manage your migration to ensure a successful implementation within budget, including coaching of your staff and detailed layouting development where your staff might be over-stretched, or limitations on resources mean you cannot cover all requirements yourselves within a reasonable time-scale.

LaserSoft ® - Maintenance and Replacement

The LaserSoft ® document formatting system from DETEC Technologies was conceived and implemented in the early 1990s and was based on mainframe technology (LS/REXX scripting). A replacement for LaserSoft ® was announced by DETEC in 2005 and the some LaserSoft ® users have already upgraded to the next generation product, DoXite ®

Companies still running LaserSoft ® have a number of current requirements:

  • Continued maintenance of their LS/REXX & LS/Designer applications.
  • What product to choose as the successor to LaserSoft ®.

We can help in both cases. With a wealth of experience and know-how of the LaserSoft ® products, we can help maintain your existing Lasersoft ® applications (e.g. specific project implementations, holiday cover, etc.) and we can advise on what strategy makes sense for you in seeking a replacement for the LaserSoft ® system.

Although DoXite ® has features that are not available in LaserSoft ®, unfortunately for existing LaserSoft ® users, DoXite ® also does not have all the features of the LaserSoft ® system, which can mean that a major re-implementation of documents layouts is required to migrate from LaserSoft ® to DoXite ®. In such cases, it can make more sense to look around on the market to see if there is a better alternative to DoXite ®. SAP users, for example, will have to consider the new Adobe document layouting tools for SAP. We have a considerable knowledge of the market for layouting tools, with their various strengths and weaknesses, strategic advantages and disadvantages.

We can give you independent advice on what options are available, what difficulties might arise in a migration to DoXite ® and support you during a migration. During that time, your existing LaserSoft ® staff must train to use a new product and must re-implement all existing LaserSoft ® document layouts using that new product. We can cover the day-to-day LaserSoft ® workload, freeing your staff to concentrate on the migration product, significantly reducing the time required to migrate and the potential success of the migration.

Document Test System

Changes to document layouts can be difficult to manage, particularly when changes to building blocks which can then have unexpected side-effects. There is a real need to do "negative tests" so that not only the change itself is tested, but checks are made throughout all docoments to ensure they still work as required too.

Similarly when updating a Document Composition software release. Simply installing the new release can be a very risky undertaking if you are not sure that your existing layout applications will continue without any change to the layouting using the new release.

We can implement a test system so that you can check changes new software releases before putting them into production.
